Custom Printed Wall-coverings

Wallpaper has made a grand resurgence in the world of interior design, especially with the modern day ability to produce customised images and patterns through wide format digital printing. Custom Printed wallpaper presents domestic renovators, builders, interior designers, brands and business owners with an array of creative possibilities. From production
techniques to applications and design trends, 1800 Projects can help you explore the multifaceted world of custom printed wallpaper.

How We Make Wallpaper

1800 Projects have all the specialised tools required to design and produce premium wallpaper prints. We do this by starting in the design studio and creating high quality artwork suitable for wide format digital printing. The image reproduction is always as good as the artwork so getting the design element correct is paramount. Once we have the artwork in order we take that to the print room and use premium rolls of (self adhesive fabric or vinyl) and digitally print the artwork or images onto.
We print our wallpaper with the latest in UV digital printing technology (The Cannon Colorado M5) ensuring the best image reproduction and high definition printing results. On top of stunning print reproduction the Cannon Colorado M5 uses specialised uv gel inks providing durable ink coverage in CMYK colours plus white.

Choosing the right Substrate

1800 Projects stock a wide range of printable wallpaper substrates allowing a wide range of texture finishes. Textured fabric is the most common choice for wallpaper, its a more traditional look and feel prints look incredible. Textured fabric wall paper is not laminated so is more likely to absorb stains if your kids decide to pull out the colouring in set and do some artwork of their own! (Tip: The best way to clean your wallpaper if this happens is with baby wipes.)  Printable fabrics are for indoor use.
Laminated Vinyl is the durable option and most commonly used for commercial settings. Its water and stain-resistant, making it ideal for retail settings or high traffic areas. We use a range of laminates for printed vinyl, matte, gloss and textured the choice is yours.
There are also textured vinyl products for outdoor applications but the laminate we use is a liquid form rather than a film.
The best way to decide is come in and see them for yourself. Touch, feel and make the right decision because your printed wallpaper will be in place for many years to come!

Specialised Printing Techniques

1800 Projects uses some revolutionary printing techniques for printing wall paper thanks to the technology of the Cannon Colorado M5 printer. Beyond the high quality print reproduction the printer does at great speeds the M5 comes with a unique ability to print texture. Creating tactile wall prints speaks for its self, how many times do you hear Darren Palmer say the word tactile on the block! He’s got a good point, why would you want something flat when you can bring dimension into the mix.

Professional Installation

When it comes to installation we recommend engaging an experienced installer. 1800 Projects have years of experience installing custom wallpaper, self adhesive vinyls and wall wraps. We know the tricks and tips that will provide a premium finish. Professional installation starts with wall preparation. We will sand any high sports and make the surface the best its can be (high spots will be visible through some wall papers and laminated SAV products. After the wall is nice and flat we apply a special adhesive prep coat called viponds. Once the wall is dry (best left for 24 hours) its time to apply the printed drops. 1800 Projects supply the printed wall drops with 20mm of overlap and 10-20mm of bleed if required.

DIY Installation

Can you install your own graphics? Absolutely you can but  you need to follow the same steps as a professional installer ensuring your surface is prepared correctly so you get a great finished result. Once you have the preparation in order you need to follow the steps

  1. Alignment: Start at a corner and ensure the first strip is perfectly vertical on the join side. Use a laser if you have one, good alignment will ensure image alignment as the panels join together. remember you have 20mm overlap on the panels this will help with alignment.
  2. Smoothing: Use a signage applicator (felt side) to eliminate air bubbles and wrinkles. Firmly push the wallpaper onto the wall but be careful not to scratch the print especially on non laminated walls.
  3. Triming: Trim excess wallpaper at the edges and around fixtures. You can do this using your signage applicator or a ruler. Take your time when trimming and get it right to avoid patchy joins.
