To generate buzz for the new Create Your Taste menu, McDonald’s tasked the 1800 team, together with MCN, to build a high capacity, fully operational, portable restaurant.

Armed with a vision for the project, the 1800 team designed the build from the ground up. The internal layout needed to adhere to strict Macca’s restaurant guidelines and have the ability to produce hamburgers in high capacity, so we consulted with the team to ensure we produced a fully functional, but showstopping design. Using McDonald’s artwork, we created all the signage on the container, as well as creating and supplying the staff uniforms.

In just 12 weeks, the restaurant was ready to serve. Installation was no small feat at each site when you’re working with a 40 foot container. Sloping ground posed a problem at event sites, but the 1800 team ensured the proper infrastructure was in place to ensure the restaurant was always level, and installed both a ramp and stairs to ensure disabled access was also available.

The portable restaurant “popped-up” at events such as the AFL grand final and V8 Supercars, allowing Macca’s to be seen in places that were never before possible!
